First Step Advocacy

First Step Advocacy Service is a new service under the umbrella of Bath Ethnic Minority Senior Citizens Association (BEMSCA).

 

We understand the cultural needs, that are associated with BAME communities. First Step is able to offer support to people who need Advocacy Services and to those who have a range of needs including housing (in particular homelessness, mental health needs, drug and alcohol related issues, domestic abuse, and signposting).


We also accept referrals from professionals (Please contact First Step Advocacy directly to discuss referral).
 

What we can do is:

 

  • Advocacy -

We can support you with attending health and social care appointments, workplace disputes, benefit claims and appointments and housing issues
 

  • One to one support -

We can offer 1:1 talking sessions and discussions to help you access additional support when you need it or signpost you to other services
 

  • Signposting -

We can support you with signposting to other agencies
Mental Health and Care and support needs- We can support you to help to get the right support if you have mental health care and support needs

 

  • Workshops -

We offer a variety of workshops from direct studio experience with access the Fairfield House radio station to writing workshops and access to the well being hub
 

  • Referrals -

We can also support you with self referrals. We also welcome referrals from professionals

What we can’t do is:

  • Give you our personal opinion on your circumstances

  • Solve problems and make decisions for you

  • Make judgements about you
